Meet Melanie

Melanie

Workforce Challenge

Melanie Roles of West Baltimore had her sights set on attending ACCE back in 2007 when she was starting high school. She was not selected through the Baltimore City Public Schools’ random lottery system, and instead started her freshman year at her zoned school – Dr. Samuel Banks High School.

Workforce Solution

When Banks High School closed at the end of Melanie’s sophomore year, she took the opportunity to re‐apply to ACCE. “I was drawn to the career aspect and the internships,” she explained. This time, she was able to enroll and started her junior year at ACCE in September 2009. “I like it here,” Melanie said. “I’ve had a real high school experience now, and everyone here at ACCE is friendly and supportive.”

Outcomes & Benefits

This fall, Melanie will head to Illinois where she will study journalism at Columbia College Chicago.
